Roadway Design Engineer - Greenbrier County

District Nine is seeking a Highway Engineer to fill their vacant Roadway Design Engineer position.  The applicant must currently be licenses as a professional engineer in West Virginia.  This exciting position works under the general supervision of the Highway Deputy District Engineer - Maintenance to perform professional engineering work in the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of highways and their attendant facilities and structures.  The applicant will work in the District 9 Headquarters located in Lewisburg to efficiently plan and design roadway maintenance, improvement and facility projects throughout a beautiful and challenging five county area, including Fayette, Greenbrier, Monroe, Nicholas and Summers.  The applicant will be involved in the advance planning of various roadway projects such as paving, landslide mitigation, drainage improvements, guardrail renovations, and other complex projects.  The applicant will actively perform design work as well as coordinate and supervise the activities of subordinate staff engineers and survey crew.  The applicant must have knowledge of civil and transportation engineering principles, theories and practices and become familiar with the application of all state and federal guidelines to make effective decisions for project development.  The Roadway Design Engineer will become familiar with federal ADA requirements in order to perform at the expert level as the district’s ADA coordinator to assist all departments in the correct application of ADA criteria.  The applicant will represent the Division at various project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.  The applicant will have opportunities for career development by attending relevant training and seminars.  Efficiently maintaining our roadway infrastructure is vital during these challenging times for the public and the commerce of our area and we are looking for a knowledgeable and dedicated person to carry the torch.
