Transportation Worker 3 Auto Body – Upshur County
Nature of Work
The Transportation Worker 3 Auto Body Repair, under limited supervision, performs full-performance level skilled work in the auto body repair of all highway equipment. This person will often serve as a working shop leader. The selected applicant will be responsible for mentoring lower level transportation workers. The selected applicant will perform all the preparation for auto body repair including cleaning, sanding, taping, and repairing dents and replacing rusted part of the vehicle bodies in preparation of painting. Painting and repairs will be done using air compressors and paint sprayers. Along with the auto body repair, will install windshields and door glass on vehicles and equipment. Performs other related duties as required. May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather.
The selected applicant will be placed in a U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program. Progression through the apprenticeship program is dependent upon hours completed, proficiency in work, training completed, as well as maintaining and/or obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
* A valid A or B Commercial Driver's License may be required fo the functional areas of Auto Body Repair, Bridge Maintenance, Building & Trade, Mechanic, and Traffic Control, at the discretion of the appointing authority.
PAY GRADE 12H
BASE HOURLY RATE $19.1295
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation Worker 3 – Auto Body Repair
• Paints vehicles and equipment using air compressors and paint sprayers
• Cleans, sands, tapes, and repairs dents and replaces rusted parts of vehicle bodies in preparation for painting
• Installs windshields and door glass on vehicles and equipment

Required Skills and Knowledge
• Knowledge of safety practices used in structural steel construction
• Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in the assigned areas
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety standards and procedures of the assigned area
• Knowledge of basic blueprint reading
• Knowledge of general construction and maintenance practices
• Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of gasoline and diesel-powered engines and their components
• Knowledge of the operation of motor driven equipment
• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repairs
• Ability to safely operate basic hand and power tools
• Ability to read operation manuals, blueprints, and specifications in the assigned areas
• Ability to operate motorized equipment in the assigned areas
• Ability to perform skilled trades work in bridge construction and maintenance
• Ability to operate and maintain highway equipment and attachments
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to maintain accurate records of daily maintenance activities and of gauges and meters used in heating ventilation and cooling systems
• Ability to climb high steel structures
• Ability to train and work cooperatively with other skilled and semi-skilled workers

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Auto Body Repair: Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience performing auto body repair.
• Substitutions: Successful completion of an approved vocational school program may be substituted for two (2) year of the required experience in the specified functional area.
