Manchin visits Head Start students in Dunbar | Charleston Gazette
DUNBAR, W.Va. -- Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., visited the Head Start program at the Shawnee Community Education Center in Dunbar on Tuesday.
During the stop, part of the senator's weeklong "Our Values, Our Priorities" tour of the state, Manchin said Head Start was not the place to start looking for ways to cut the federal budget. The House of Representatives recently included the program in its budget-cutting proposal.
"The America I know would not cut funding for children who deserve a chance at success, at least not without looking at other options," Manchin said.
