Nearly $30 Million In Housing And Urban Development Funding Awarded To WV | The Clarksburg Exponent Telegram

WASHINGTON — Nearly $30 million has been secured for West Virginia through various grant programs of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The funding will come to the state in the form of Community Development Block Grants, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, Emergency Solutions Grants and the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS Program, according to a release from the office of U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.

West Virginia Nonentitlement will receive funding from all four programs. In addition:

— Community Development Block Grant funds will be given to the cities of Huntington, Charleston, Wheeling, Parkersburg, Weirton, Morgantown, Martinsburg, Beckley and Vienna

— HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds will be given to the cities of Huntington, Charleston, Martinsburg, Wheeling, Parkersburg

— Emergency Solutions Grant funding will also be given to the city of Huntington

Capito and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., jointly announced the funding Monday. Both are members of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

“Community development funding and programs that support housing for all West Virginians, regardless of their situation, are critical to keeping our communities a great place to call home,” Capito said. “Whether it is upgrading water and wastewater services or helping a struggling family put a roof over their heads, state agencies and municipalities depend on this formula funding to improve the lives of thousands of West Virginians. I am pleased to see these resources come to our state, and I will continue to work with state and local officials on projects that benefit communities across West Virginia.”

Manchin similarly spoke to the importance of funding community development efforts.

“I am a firm believer that investing in community development is one of the keys to creating thriving cities and communities in West Virginia," he said. "This funding will enable members of our community and help keep housing affordable which in turn draws businesses to our great state. No one should have to relocate their home because the cost of living has skyrocketed or they hit a financial speedbump. I will continue to fight for the resources and opportunities to create the economic conditions that will cause West Virginia to prosper.”
