West Virginia Members Of Congress Oppose Impeachment | WOWK

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) - Perhaps nowhere in the United States is President Trump more popular, than in the Mountain State where he visits often. Now that the report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller has been out for a week, some Democrats in Congress are calling for Trump's impeachment.

"The accountability for the President lies through Congress. And that's the impeachment process," said Sen. Elizabeth Warren, (D) Massachusetts.

That's despite the fact the report found no collusion between candidate Trump and the Russians during the 2016 election. Both U.S. Senators here are opposed to impeachment.

"The Mueller Report did not go down the path of impeachment. After two years of some of the top lawmakers, and the Department of Justice investigating this for two years, did not find that type of a cause," said Sen. Joe Manchin, (D) West Virginia.

Now that the Mueller Report on the President in public, some believe it's time to get back to other issues.

"Increase jobs, get an infrastructure package, help with the drug crisis, all the things that we've worked on. But if we get off into this circus of impeachment hearings, I think would be counterproductive," said Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, (R) West Virginia.

Even Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, opposes impeachment.

"We also polled the three members of the U.S. House who represent West Virginia. All are Republicans To no one's surprise, not one of them supports impeachment of President Trump," said Mark Curtis, 13 News Chief Political Reporter.
