Manchin Statement On Memorial Day

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today released the following statement in honor of Memorial Day.

“On Memorial Day, Americans pay tribute to the brave men and women who served our nation and paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we hold dear. Their sacrifices prove that America is a nation worth fighting for, and they serve as an inspiration to us all. As one of the states with the highest Veterans per capita, West Virginians know what it takes to protect our great nation. Gayle and I extend our thanks to every American and West Virginian that has served and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

“This has been a difficult year for us all, but I know that we will come together as a state to honor and thank the families of those lost in the defense of our nation and encourage all West Virginians to take a moment to thank the spouses, parents, siblings and children of those lost. I can’t imagine the pain of losing a loved one in the line of duty, and I believe the best way we can honor their unimaginable loss is by continuing to serve, coming together as a country, and helping out our fellow neighbors.

“Gayle and I are grateful to every Veteran, military family, and Gold Star Families for their remarkable patriotism and the sacrifices they have made for our nation. And we extend our deepest appreciation and respect for those Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice. May God bless each and every one of you, your families, the great state of West Virginia and the United States of America.”
