Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will tomorrow wrap up a weeklong tour of the state with events focused on creating jobs and achieving energy independence and a town hall meeting in Fairmont. In light of the ongoing budget negotiations in Washington, Senator Manchin is traveling the state this week and highlighting a different value or priority each day: creating jobs, strengthening our families, protecting our seniors, growing small businesses and achieving energy independence.
“If we truly value our nation’s future and if we are dedicated to job creation, we must make energy independence a national priority,” Senator Manchin said. “When I was young, we used to have to wait in line to get gas based on our license plate numbers. That just shouldn’t happen in America, and we must prevent the past from becoming the future. I believe a plan to achieve energy independence must include a mix of all of our resources, must be environmentally responsible, and must challenge every state to do all it can to achieve energy independence – which will not only make us more secure, but will help create American jobs right here at home.”
Senator Manchin will kick off the day at the Westover All-Star Express, a local gas station, where he will hold a press conference on the price of energy and the need to achieve energy independence.
He will then visit the U.S. Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory for a tour and to speak with officials. He will end the day with a town hall meeting in Fairmont. .
