Manchin and Capito Announce $800,000 for Coalfield Development Corporation

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today announced $800,000 in funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Administration for Children and Families to support the development and improvement of the Coalfield Development Corporation’s factory in Wayne, West Virginia. This funding will help expand community job training programs and social services for West Virginians who have experienced layoffs in the coal mining industry.

“West Virginia’s coal country has been devastated by this Administration’s harmful regulations, and we are fighting to keep the coal jobs we have left. Making sure every out-of-work coal miner has access to meaningful job opportunities is one of my top priorities,” Senator Manchin said. “This funding will support the communities most deeply impacted by these anti-coal regulations. We must do everything possible to help our miners through these uncertain times, and I’m happy the Coalfield Development Corporation will be able to continue their crucial work.”

“The Obama Administration’s war on coal has hit West Virginia communities particularly hard, impacting our miners and their families. As I work to roll back the administration's harmful regulations, we also need to identify new career and skills training opportunities for these unemployed West Virginians. Helping those who are struggling to find jobs is critical to the future of our state, and I am glad the Coalfield Development Corporation will use these funds to expand needed programs and services,” said Senator Capito.
