Manchin and Capito Announce Funding for Three West Virginia Fire Departments
Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department and South Berkeley Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad will receive FEMA funding to enhance fire prevention and safety operations
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced today that the Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department and South Berkeley Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad will receive funding to enhance fire prevention and safety operations through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) and Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Programs.
“Our committed firefighters, who wake up each morning and leave their families at home, put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities,” Senator Manchin said. “They make sure that the people of West Virginia are safe, and my experience working with the volunteer rescue squad in Marion County has allowed me to appreciate their hard work firsthand. These grants will provide our first responders with the resources they need to respond to any emergency quickly and efficiently.”
“West Virginia’s firefighters have one of the most important jobs in our state – keeping our people and our communities safe. This funding will bolster fire prevention and safety efforts in Clintonville and will provide operations and safety support for volunteer fire departments in Moorefield and South Berkeley. Investments in the safety and well-being of those on the front lines of an emergency are crucial, and I am proud to join with Senator Manchin to announce these grants,” said Senator Capito.
A program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program is to supply critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary to protect local communities. The Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Program is also a program of FEMA, and it supports projects that improve the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related hazards.
Individual funding amounts are listed below:
$149,500 – Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department (AFG Program funding)
$36,273 – South Berkeley Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad (AFG Program funding)
$32,000 – Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department (FP&S Program funding)
