Manchin and Capito Announce Funding to Support Economic Recovery in Central Appalachia
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) announced $710,000 from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to support economic recovery efforts by the Region I Planning and Development Council in Mercer County. The award will be used to establish a comprehensive database of manufacturers that will be available as a resource during disaster recovery in the southern region of the state.
“This federal investment will support job creation and manufacturing improvements to ensure every hard working West Virginian has access to meaningful job opportunities. I’m pleased to see this funding head to Mercer County,” Senator Manchin said.
“Helping our struggling coal communities in West Virginia has been a top priority of mine,” said Senator Capito. “These funds will provide critical tools to help communities in central Appalachia recover from the economic distress due to the downturn of the coal industry and the recent flood, while also promoting manufacturing efforts to benefit West Virginia’s economic future.”
