Manchin and Capito Announce More Than $7 Million for Infrastructure Repair in West Virginia

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today announced that West Virginia will receive $7,397,643 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to help finance federal road and bridge repairs in 19 counties following severe weather incidents in the spring and summer of 2015.

“The severe weather earlier this year took a toll on communities throughout West Virginia, impacting our businesses, highways, roads and our homes,” Senator Manchin said. “Over the past couple of months, I have heard from numerous West Virginians about the dire road conditions caused by the severe weather. I am glad this funding will help repair the damage while also creating an environment for economic growth.”

“This funding is important to West Virginia communities that were struck by severe weather earlier this year. Roads, bridges and highways play a vital role in a mountainous state like ours, and this financial assistance from the Federal Highway Administration will help put these 19 counties on the road to recovery,” said Senator Capito.

More than $6.5 million is being awarded through FHWA’s Emergency Relief (ER) program and more than $800,000 is from the Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) program.

Individual awards are listed below:

• $813,181 – Funds are awarded through the ERFO program to support repairs in Pocahontas, Webster, Nicholas and Greenbrier Counties

• $1,316,892 – Funds are awarded through the ER program for the following West Virginia counties affected by the July 2015 flooding: Boone, Braxton, Clay, Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Jackson, Nicholas, Roane, Webster and Wood.

• $5,267,570 – Funds are awarded through the ER program for the following West Virginia counties affected by the April 2015 flooding: Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Marshall, Mingo, Pleasants, Wayne and Wetzel.
