Manchin and Capito Announce More Than $800,000 for Volunteer Fire Departments in Southern West Virginia
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced two Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) awards totaling $871,907 for volunteer fire departments in Cabell and Wayne counties. These funds will be used to purchase new equipment, including a power lift for the Prichard Volunteer Fire Department and a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for the Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department.
“In West Virginia, our dedicated firefighters and first responders wake up each morning and voluntarily put their lives on line to keep our communities safe,” said Senator Manchin, who has worked with the volunteer rescue squad in Marion County. “This funding will provide volunteer fire departments in Barboursville and Prichard with the resources and equipment they need to properly respond to any emergency quickly and to continue to protect West Virginians.”
“Our local fire departments work around-the-clock to keep us safe, especially during emergency situations,” said Senator Capito. “These AFG grants will go a long way in helping the Barboursville and Prichard Volunteer Fire Departments replace old equipment and purchase new tools so they can continue to safely respond to fires and other hazards.”
Individual awards are listed below:
- $825,513 – Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department (Cabell County)
- $46,394 – Prichard Volunteer Fire Department (Wayne County)
