Manchin and Capito Announce Nearly $3 Million for WV National Cancer Prevention and Control Programs
Washington D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $2,948,747 in funding for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“One in eight West Virginias will suffer from cancer during their lifetime. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources does important work in maintaining the state’s cancer registry and conducting breast and cervical cancer screenings in underserved communities. I’m glad to see this investment in West Virginia cancer prevention and I will continue to advocate for these resources as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee,” Senator Manchin said.
“Whether it is through their own personal experience or that of a family member or friend, nearly everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer at some point. It’s important that we continue to support research and prevention efforts that can help us fight back against this devastating disease,” Senator Capito said. “I am thrilled to see this funding come to West Virginia, and I will continue to push for critical resources to aid in the fight against cancer.”
