Manchin and Capito Announce Nearly $600K for West Virginia Airports
Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced the Buckhannon-Upshur Airport Authority, Eastern WV Regional Airport Authority and Morgantown Municipal-Walter L Bill Hart Field will receive a total of $580,245 from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration.
“Investing in our infrastructure is one of the best ways to create good jobs and build a strong foundation for future economic growth,” Senator Manchin said. “With this funding these airports will be able to make critical infrastructure improvements that will ensure the safety of our residents and travelers and boost economic development. As a pilot myself, aviation safety is a top priority for me and I’m glad this funding will go towards improving our airports and infrastructure.”
“In rural states like West Virginia, airports are critical for residents, visitors and businesses to access remote areas,” said Senator Capito. “Not only will this airport funding help improve travel throughout the state, it will also contribute to economic development.”
Individual award amounts listed below:
$135,000 – Morgantown Municipal-Walter L Bill Hart Field: This funding will be used to acquire a new displacement plow to keep the airport serviceable during snow periods and aid in the efficiency and safety of operations.
$311,288 – Eastern WV Regional Airport Authority: This funding will update to the existing airport master plan study to show current and future needs of the airport.
$133,957 – Buckhannon-Upshur Airport Authority: This funding will be used for the removal of tree obstructions in the Runway 11 approach. This funding will also go towards the purchase of 7.91 acres of land needed to remove the obstructions and for the construction phase of the project.
