Manchin and Capito Announce TRIO Student Support Services Program Grants
More than $450,000 Awarded to Shepherd University and Glenville State College
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today announced $451,079 in funding from the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Program for Shepherd University and Glenville State College. These funds aim to increase the college retention and graduation rates of TRIO SSS Program participants.
“We have a responsibility to make sure that every student who is willing to work hard receives a good education and has the necessary resources and training to achieve their educational and career goals,” Senator Manchin said. “This program will help our students at Shepherd University and Glenville State College by providing them with important services, such as tutoring and financial aid assistance, to make better informed decisions about applying for, attending and graduating from college. By providing greater access to college, this program will also help build the educated workforce we need to keep our economy growing and to maintain a competitive edge in the global marketplace.”
“Initiatives like the TRIO Student Support Services Program help level the playing field so that students from all backgrounds have an opportunity to receive a college education. This funding will bolster TRIO programs at Shepherd University and Glenville State College and enable more West Virginia students to go to college, earn a degree and enter West Virginia’s workforce,” said Senator Capito.
