Manchin and Rockefeller Announce More Than $852,000 for WV Volunteer Fire Departments
Washington, D.C.— U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller today announced that $852,302 will be awarded to three West Virginia volunteer fire departments through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The funding will help the volunteer fire departments in Buffalo, Sherrard and Walton supply critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources necessary to protect local communities.
“Day after day the dedicated volunteers at our local fire departments help protect our local communities in West Virginia,” Senator Manchin said. “As a former volunteer for the Marion County volunteer rescue squad, I appreciate and understand their hard work and dedication first-hand. These grants will provide the volunteer fire departments in Buffalo, Sherrard and Walton with the necessary resources to respond properly to all types of emergencies and to continue to keep West Virginians safe.”
“It is essential that our firefighters have the resources they need while working to protect our communities during emergency situations,” said Rockefeller. “I am so pleased the Buffalo, Sherrard, and Walton Volunteer Fire Departments are receiving critical funds that will help support the life-saving public services they provide.”
The individual award amounts are:
Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department – $70,082
Sherrard Volunteer Fire Department – $711,540
