Manchin Announces $13.4 Million For New Overpass Bridge, Road Improvements in Bluefield
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $13,480,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for the construction of a new overpass bridge and additional road improvements in Mercer County. The funding is made possible through the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program, which Senator Manchin fought to include in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
“Improving and modernizing our roads, bridges and highways continues to be one of my top priorities. I’m pleased the DOT is investing more than $13.4 million in constructing a new overpass bridge and making additional road improvements in Mercer County,” said Senator Manchin. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to bolster our transportation infrastructure across the Mountain State.”
The funding will replace an existing one lane, signal-controlled railroad underpass (Old Bramwel Road/County Route 11/”Midway Tunnel”) with an overpass that includes separated pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, as well as make surrounding road improvements.
