Manchin Announces $14.5 Million to Expand Workforce Training and Development Across West Virginia, Appalachia

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $14.5 million from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) for five projects across West Virginia and Appalachia. The funding will support collaborative, multi-state projects that will promote large-scale economic transformation.

“I’m pleased that ARC is investing $14.5 million though their Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies program,” said Senator Manchin. “These projects will strengthen workforce development, job and skills training and capacity building opportunities across eight states in our region. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources that strengthen our communities in West Virginia and all of Appalachia.”

Individual awards listed below:

  • $7,030,989 – Mountain State Education Services Cooperative
    • This funding will launch an innovative workforce simulation model in middle schools in Kentucky, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
  • $3,980,996 – Morehead State University
    • This funding will be used to build the aerospace workforce in Kentucky and West Virginia.
  • $2,870,702 – Thrive Regional Partnership
    • This funding will expand collaborative capacity building programs in Alabama, Georgia, West Virginia and Tennessee.
  • $500,000 – Washington Greene County Job Training Agency, INC.
    • This funding will expand apprenticeship opportunities in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
  • $192, 050 – HealthPath Foundation of Ohio
    • This funding will be used to build the oral health workforce and improve access to oral healthcare in North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
