Manchin Announces $3.5 Million for Boone Memorial Health and Wellness Center, Lincoln Emergency Medical Services
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced Boone Memorial Hospital will receive $3,000,000 and Lincoln Emergency Medical Services will receive $525,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding will help establish the new Boone Memorial Health and Wellness Center in Danville, as well as purchase three critically-needed ambulances for Lincoln Emergency Medical Services. These federal awards are two of the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests Senator Manchin secured on behalf of West Virginia through the Fiscal Year 2023 funding bill.
“I’m proud to have secured direct funding to support Boone Memorial Health’s expansion in Danville and the life-saving efforts of Lincoln Emergency Medical Services,” said Senator Manchin. “The new Boone Memorial Health and Wellness Center will provide quality services for approximately 32,200 rural residents and will include a drive-through clinic, a drive-through pharmacy, a community fitness center and much more. The funding announced today will also help purchase three critically-needed ambulances to serve all areas of Lincoln County. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources that ensure rural communities across the Mountain State have what they need to thrive.”
The Senate Appropriations Committee allows members of Congress to submit CDS requests, which provides an opportunity for state and local governments, non-profits, and other public entities to receive targeted funding for projects that bolster their communities and directly support West Virginians. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Manchin works to ensure taxpayer dollars are allocated to priorities that benefit all West Virginians, boost economic growth and support the needs of communities across the Mountain State while remaining fiscally responsible.
This past May, Senator Manchin visited Danville to celebrate a $14.3 million investment by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to support the Boone Memorial Health and Wellness Center expansion.
Individual awards listed below:
- $3,000,000 – Boone Memorial Hospital

- $525,000 – Lincoln Emergency Medical Services (LEMS)
- This funding will be used to purchase and maintain three Advanced Life Support ambulances. LEMS serves all areas of Lincoln County, with over 20,000 residents, 365 days per year, 24 hours per day. With the nearest hospital being 25 miles away, residents rely on the services to provide life saving measures during emergencies.
