Manchin Announces $42 Million for West Virginia Flood Recovery Efforts
Funding announcement comes after Senator Manchin’s continued request for additional support for West Virginians impacted by the June 2016 flood
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that West Virginia will receive an additional $42,383,000 for flood relief from the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program to support recovery from major disasters. Senator Manchin has led the West Virginia delegation in requesting additional flood funding to ensure the recovery efforts of West Virginias are fully addressed. Combined with previous CDBG-DR disaster relief funding announcements totaling $107 million, today’s announcement brings West Virginia’s total CDBG-DR funding in response to the storm to $149,000,000.
“West Virginians are the most resilient people you will ever meet. When the devastating floods poured through our towns last year, we knew recovery would not be easy. But we never doubted the incredible efforts our community would make to rebuild. Funding like this support the incredible efforts being led by West Virginia communities and I will keep fighting for resources to ensure our efforts to rebuild do not stall,” Senator Manchin said.
