Manchin Announces $639k To Strengthen Mental, Maternal Health Services
Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $639,646 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for West Virginia University (WVU) and the West Virginia State Department of Health. The funding will support access to School-Based Health Clinics in rural areas as well as hire new staff within the West Virginia Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health.
“I’m pleased HHS is investing more than $639K to support expanding access to mental health services in schools and advancing maternal healthcare,” said Senator Manchin. “Every West Virginian deserves access to quality, affordable health services and I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of these investments. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for resources to support our communities across the Mountain State.”
Individual awards listed below:
- $370,000 – West Virginia State Department of Health
- This funding will support providing an opportunity for the West Virginia Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health to build and improve the Maternal Mortality Review Panel by hiring a coordinator to oversee it.
- $269,646 – West Virginia University
- This funding will support implementing the National Institute of Mental Health Clinical Pathway in Rural Appalachian School-Based Health Clinics.
