Manchin Announces $7.5 Million for West Virginia Bureau for Public Health to Reimburse COVID-19 Costs

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $7,539,032 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health. The funding will reimburse costs accrued during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our healthcare professionals go above and beyond to care for their fellow West Virginians, and we must ensure they have the resources necessary to keep themselves and our communities safe. I'm pleased FEMA is assisting the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health in reimbusing costs built up from providing more than 106,000 COVID-19 diagnostic tests,” said Senator Manchin. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for funding to support our healthcare workers and facilities as they care for West Virginians across the Mountain State.”

The funding announced today will reimburse COVID-19 diagnostic testing costs accumulated between July 2022 and May 2023. The West Virginia Bureau for Public Health provided testing to approximately 106,024 individuals during this period.
