Manchin Announces $81K to Support Affordable Housing for All West Virginians
Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $81,429 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support safe, affordable housing for all West Virginians. The funding will specifically be used to promote housing stability in Mingo and Randolph Counties, support housing counseling services in southern West Virginia and help humanely and effectively address youth homelessness in Randolph County.
“Every West Virginian deserves a roof over their head and a warm, safe place to sleep at night,” said Senator Manchin. “I’m pleased HUD is investing more than $81K to help ensure quality, affordable housing for all West Virginians. The funding will be used to promote housing stability in Mingo and Randolph Counties, support housing counseling services in southern West Virginia and address youth homelessness in Randolph County. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to support a secure living environment for every West Virginian across the Mountain State."

The HUD Stability Vouchers Program provides funding to Public Housing Authorities to assist households experiencing or at risk of homelessness, those fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking, and Veterans and families that include a Veteran that meet one of the proceeding criteria.
- $27,687 – Housing Authority of Mingo County
- $26,110 – Housing Authority of Randolph County
The HUD Comprehensive Housing Counseling (CHC) Program provides funds to housing counseling agencies that provide counseling and advice to tenants and homeowners with respect to property maintenance, financial management and literacy and other relevant areas to assist individuals in improving their housing conditions.
- $16,452 – Southern Appalachian Labor School Foundation
- $6,233 – Housing Authority of Mingo County
The HUD Homeless Foster Youth to Independence Initiative (FYI) provides housing assistance on behalf of youth at least 18 years and not more than 24 years of age who left foster care, or will leave foster care within 90 days, and are currently experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness.
