Manchin Announces $992K to Boost Road, Traffic Safety in West Virginia

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $992,000 from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to enhance road safety in Martinsburg, Wheeling and Star City. The funding is made possible through the DOT’s Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program.

“I’m pleased to announce these three DOT awards, which will boost road and travel safety for West Virginians and those visiting our great state,” said Senator Manchin. “I look forward to seeing their positive impacts for the Martinsburg, Wheeling and Star City communities for decades to come. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to upgrade and improve our transportation infrastructure.”

Individual awards listed below:

  • $552,000 – City of Martinsburg
    • This award will be used to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan and conduct supplemental planning and demonstration activities to transform the city’s transportation network to reduce deaths and serious injuries and to provide safe options for people of all ages, abilities, and means to travel throughout the community.
  • $240,000– Belomar Regional Council
    • This award will be used to develop a regional safety action plan that reduces fatal and severe injury crashes within the Wheeling metropolitan area.
  • $200,000 – Town of Star City
    • This award will be used to create a Safety Action Plan that enhances safety and equity for all residents and visitors.
