Manchin Applauds Kanawha County Commission for Securing Major Sporting Events

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today applauded the Kanawha County Commission for securing three major sporting events that will bring $32 million to the Mountain State. Senator Manchin supported the county’s successful bid for the 2019/2020 U.S. Youth Soccer National President’s Cup and the 2019 U.S. Youth Soccer East Region Tournaments, which will be held at the new Shawnee Park Multi-Sport Complex in Dunbar.

“I was so proud to support Kanawha County as it worked to bring these major tournaments to the Mountain State. Youth soccer is on the rise in West Virginia – with 18 travel soccer clubs and 37 recreational clubs. This growth is especially significant in Kanawha County, where the Shawnee Park Multi-Sport Complex is being developed into a truly premier sports destination,” Senator Manchin said. “These two major tournaments will bring thousands of visitors to the Kanawha Valley – boosting our economy and giving us new opportunities to showcase West Virginia to visitors. Today’s announcement is another reason to be proud of our incredible young people, our forward-looking soccer community, and our beautiful state.”

Senator Manchin wrote two letters of support for the Kanawha County Commission for these tournaments. To read the letters Senator Manchin sent to the Kanawha County Commission, click here and here.
