Manchin Applauds Launch of Online One-Stop-Shop Jobs Portal to Help Employ Veterans
Washington, D.C. – After working with the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Defense and Labor for more than two years, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today applauded the launch of the Veterans Employment Center, an idea Senator Manchin initiated in 2012. This new online database system provides veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses with the tools they need to connect to employers. This one-stop-shop Internet portal is the first interagency tool to provide public and private job opportunities, a resume-builder, military skills translator, and detailed career and training resources together in one place. In addition, the Veterans Employment Center offers a comprehensive database of resumes for employers who are seeking to match veterans with available jobs.
The Departments of Veterans Affairs, Defense, Commerce, Labor, Education, the Small Business Administration, and the Office of Personnel Management worked together to design and develop the website and incorporate features of existing online employment tools within government. Each agency is now engaged in minimizing duplication and redundancy of current sites and services.
“I have always said if you want to help a vet, hire a vet,” Senator Manchin said. “After working with the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Defense and Labor since my good friend Senator Kirk and I launched the Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus more than two years ago, I am pleased that the Veterans Employment Center has finally become a reality. Veterans and transitioning servicemembers deserve a simple, consolidated, and reliable source to connect with employers and search for all available good-paying jobs. Those who have served this great country are some of the most well-trained, disciplined, and dedicated individuals among us, and they’ve proven to be undeniable assets on and off the battlefield. This online tool and joint effort is just the beginning of what we can do together to help our veterans quickly apply their military skills to the civilian job market.”
