Manchin Applauds New Lower Price Agreements For Ten Prescription Drugs Selected For Medicare Negotiations
Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) applauded the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) announcement that it has reached agreements for new, lower prices for all 10 drugs selected for negotiations, as directed by the Inflation Reduction Act. These negotiated drugs are some of the most expensive and most frequently dispensed drugs in the Medicare program and are used to treat conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The new prices will go into effect for people with Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage beginning January 1, 2026.
“Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, prescription drug costs for millions of families across our country are going down. No family should have to choose between life-saving medication and putting food on their table or a roof over their heads, and this agreement is the product of the first-ever direct negotiations between Medicare and pharmaceutical manufacturers over a set of medicines. I’m so proud of the incredible impacts the Inflation Reduction Act is having on reducing healthcare costs for hardworking West Virginians and Americans, and I will continue working to ensure it is implemented correctly and effectively,” said Senator Manchin.
Senator Manchin announced the selection of these first ten prescription drugs for Medicare price negotiations in August, 2023.
