Manchin Applauds Senate Passage of His Consumer Education Amendment

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) applauded the Senate passage of his consumer education amendment to the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act of 2015 (CARA). His amendment will strengthen the bill by helping those on the frontlines of this terrible epidemic provide their communities with the information they need to help stop the spread of opioid addiction and help people seek treatment.

“There is simply too little understanding about the dangers of these drugs. Too many people get sucked into opioid addiction because they don’t understand the risks,” Senator Manchin said. “My amendment to CARA will enable us to educate individuals about the dangers of opioid abuse, practices to help prevent opioid abuse, and how to detect the early warning signs of addiction. CARA is a good first step in the fight to curb this epidemic, but we need to do much more and I will continue to push for real resources to address the national opioid crisis.”
