Manchin, Capito Announce $1.2 Million from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for Wheeling-Ohio County Airport
Charleston,
WV – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV),
members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $1,200,000 from the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract Tower (FCT) Program for the
Wheeling-Ohio County Airport. The funding was made possible through the
bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and will
support repairs and upgrades to the airport’s tower.
“I am
pleased the FAA is investing in the Wheeling-Ohio County airport to improve
safety and efficiency for West Virginians and
Americans traveling to and within our great state,” said Senator
Manchin. “I successfully fought to include funding in our bipartisan Infrastructure
Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA)
to support West Virginia’s airports, and I
look forward to seeing the positive impacts of this investment. As a member of
the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources
to support transportation hubs across the Mountain State.”
“Improving
the quality, capacity, and safety of our airports was a priority of mine as I
helped craft the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs
Act,” Senator
Capito said. “I’m thrilled to see these resources announced today for the
Wheeling-Ohio County Airport, which will be used to help make key upgrades and
needed repairs to the airport’s tower. Funding like this will greatly benefit
the day-to-day operations of the airport, and I look forward to the positive
difference it will make both now and in the future.”
The FCT
program supports air traffic control services at towers throughout the United
States and provides funding to eligible airports for tower construction and
equipment costs. The funding announced today for the Wheeling-Ohio County
Airport tower will support roof and window replacement, rehabilitation of the
interior of the tower and upgrades to critical equipment.
