Manchin, Capito Announce $1.7 Million For Prevention And Control Of Emerging Infectious Diseases In West Virginia

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,761,045 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases through the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR).

“As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, we must ensure that we are prepared for any infectious disease threats that may face our nation. This funding will help West Virginia as we continue to respond to this healthcare crisis and care for those affected by COVID-19. This pandemic has shown us that we must be ready for any threat, including those unseen and I will continue to fight for funding that helps West Virginia respond to the pandemic and prepares us for the future,” said Senator Manchin. 

“It is incredibly important that we provide the resources our medical community needs to limit the spread of infectious diseases, especially as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. These resources will allow our state health department the flexibility to increase lab capacity, which will ultimately help improve their capabilities and the overall level of care that is available in West Virginia. Creating the foundation we need to battle infectious diseases will help keep our communities safe and better prepare us for the future. HHS has been a steadfast partner to our state, and I am thankful for the continuation of programs like this,” said Senator Capito.
