Manchin, Capito Announce $3.3 Million For Job Training, Employment Services Across West Virginia

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $3,333,333 from the U.S. Department of Labor to provide job training and employment services across West Virginia. The funding comes from the Department of Labor’s National Health Emergency Dislocated Worker program, which seeks to provide services to areas of the country that have suffered health and economic damage from the opioid epidemic. 

“In West Virginia, the opioid epidemic has completely ravaged our communities and our economy. There are major deficits in our workforce because many people who have substance use disorder are unable to work. Job training resources like this are so important in helping West Virginians in recovery find good-paying jobs and get back to work,” said Senator Manchin. “As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am always supportive of economic opportunities like this for our great state. I firmly believe that West Virginians are the most hardworking, dedicated workers out there and programs like this will help more of us get back to work.”

“In order for individuals and communities to fully recover, we have to get those who have struggled with substance abuse back to work. A job can help provide meaning and purpose for those working to move on from a history of drug use. This funding for job training and employment services will help rebuild communities hurt by the opioid epidemic and help change lives to work for a better future,” said Senator Capito.
