Manchin, Capito Announce $341K To Marshall University For Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Research
Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore
Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced
$341,768 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to
Marshall University for diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic research. This project
will study how kidneys regulate sodium levels in the body.
“West Virginia and our universities continue to lead groundbreaking
research. I am pleased HHS is investing in Marshall University diabetes,
endocrinology and metabolic research that will help us better understand
internal medicine and diseases. I look forward to seeing the impacts of this
important research, and I will continue to advocate for funding to help
research projects in the Mountain State succeed,” said Senator Manchin.
“Many West Virginians are at increased risk for heart diseases like
hypertension and diabetes. That’s why it’s important we do all we can to
reverse this trend,” Senator Capito said.
“Funding to support increased research efforts like this project at Marshall
University help us understand contributing factors to these diseases. I will
always advocate for the support our institutions need to continue important
research initiatives like this.”
