Manchin, Capito Announce $600K For Opioid Response In Rural Communities

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Appropriations Committee, today announced $600,000 for West Virginia through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Funding comes through the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program and will support planning for prevention and treatment efforts in rural communities across West Virginia.

“Every single community in West Virginia has been devastated by the opioid epidemic. Although several facilities and programs to combat substance use disorder have opened in recent years, there is still a huge need for these services throughout our rural state. I am glad that HRSA is investing in three facilities to strengthen the treatment and prevention programs in Berkeley Springs, Buckhannon, and Huntington,” said Senator Manchin. “As your Senator, fighting against this horrible epidemic and helping fellow West Virginians have always been my top priorities.”

“West Virginia has been hit hard by the opioid epidemic,” Senator Capito said. “Over the past several years, my colleagues and I have provided resources to address the crisis and support those suffering from addiction. Unfortunately, rural communities often aren’t able to take full advantage of these resources. This funding will help those communities partner with health professionals and others to decide the best way to implement prevention and treatment programs that will save lives and help end this crisis.”

  • $200,000 – Morgan County Partnership in Berkeley Springs
  • $200,000 – Opportunity House, Inc. in Buckhannon
  • $200,000 – Prestera Center for Mental Health Services, Inc. in Huntington
