Manchin, Capito Announce $7.5 Million in HHS Grants for West Virginia

Washington, DC — U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $7,533,377 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to bolster local health centers, provide maternal health services, increase access to HIV/AIDS treatment, support research projects, strengthen prevention programs and enhance primary care training in West Virginia.

“Ensuring all West Virginians have access to the healthcare services they need and deserve is one of my top priorities. I’m pleased HHS is investing $7.5 million in these seven critical programs to support vital medical research, help health centers provide health services, increase access to HIV/AIDS treatment and strengthen prevention programs for diabetes, heart disease and strokes. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for funding to support healthcare services and research opportunities across the Mountain State,” Senator Manchin said.

“I am always encouraged to see important health initiatives in West Virginia receive support needed to strengthen programs our communities rely on,” Senator Capito said. “Whether it’s supporting research initiatives, strengthening prevention programs, or equipping our local health centers, this funding will go a long way in improving health outcomes and primary care access for people across West Virginia. I will continue to advocate for the funding our state needs to support our health institutions and keep our residents healthy.”

  • $1,699,054 – West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services: Ryan White Title II Formula Grants Program
  • $1,160,359 – Community Care of West Virginia, Rock Cave, WV:  Health Center Cluster Program
  • $1,156,898 – Shenandoah Valley Medical System, Martinsburg, WV: Health Center Cluster Program 
  • $1,052,603 – West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services: Maternal and Child Health Services
  • $293,831 – Marshall University Research Corporation: Primary Care Training and Enhancement, Physician Assistant Rural Training Program 
  • $5,000 – West Virginia University: Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation Research
