Manchin, Capito Announce $845K To Improve Energy Efficiency, Resiliency in West Virginia Rural Communities
Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore
Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced
$845,519 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to 18 West Virginia
businesses and organizations to improve energy efficiency and resiliency in
rural communities across West Virginia. These awards are from the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), which
works to support agricultural producers and small rural businesses through energy
efficiency improvements and investments in renewable energy systems.
“Rural communities across West Virginia continue to feel the impacts
of climate change, from heavy flooding to severe winter storms that wreak havoc
on our fellow West Virginians. Ensuring our farmers and small business owners
have reliable and energy efficient systems is a good step to helping our
communities manage the natural disasters facing our state,” said Senator
Manchin. “I strongly believe in an all of the above energy policy, and
these awards to 18 West Virginia businesses will help achieve that goal while
creating and retaining good-paying jobs in the Mountain State.”
“We must
do all that we can to support our rural communities, and make certain that
resources are available to strengthen their resiliency,” Senator Capito said.
“Our small businesses and agricultural producers provide so much for our local
markets, and drive economic development across the Mountain State. I will
continue to advocate on their behalf, and make sure our localities have what
they need to adapt to future challenges.”
