MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE RESEARCH FUNDING FOR WVU

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $178,080 for West Virginia University (WVU) through the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) National Institute of Justice (NIJ). Funding comes through the NIJ’s Research and Development in Forensic Science for Criminal Justice Purposes program.

"The forensic science programs at West Virginia University are nationally recognized and continue to lead the way in advancing forensic science research,” Senator Manchin said. "I applaud the University for their dedication to forensic science research throughout the years. I’m happy to see this investment in their important work and will continue fighting for educational investments for our state.”

“WVU and our state’s other higher education institutions continue to perform research that informs public safety officials, allowing them to better serve the people of West Virginia,” Senator Capito said. “This funding supports research that will hopefully give law enforcement better tools to keep our communities safe. I appreciate the faculty, students, and staff at WVU for their continued pursuit of knowledge that will benefit West Virginia and states across the country.”
