Manchin, Capito Announce Domestic Violence Prevention Grant In West Virginia
Washington, DC - U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $91,274 for the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence Inc. in Elkview, West Virginia. This funding was made available through the State and Territorial Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalitions Program and will help provide assistance and support projects that work to combat domestic violence and abuse in West Virginia.
“Americans and West Virginians are facing increasing rates of domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic and we must act now to address this. This funding will support the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence to provide various resources to victims and advocate for sexual assault and domestic abuse survivors to ensure they are supported and cared for. This is an issue that must be addressed fully and I will continue advocating for funding that will help programs in West Virginia support those of us who have been affected,” said Senator Manchin.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has created many unseen consequences, including increased numbers of domestic violence victims across the country. This demands immediate action on all levels. Programs such as these provide the resources our coalitions need to reach victims of domestic assault and violence and make sure they continue to receive support and protection. I will continue to advocate for funding towards our domestic violence coalitions and the proper resources needed for those facing the terrible threat of violence in the home,” said Senator Capito.
