Manchin, Capito Announce More Than $1 Million in Federal Funding to Help Fight Drug Epidemic in West Virginia
Resources will support efforts to combat youth substance abuse
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today announced a total of $1,108,186 in federal funding from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy’s (ONDCP) Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program. The funds will help West Virginia communities mobilize individuals and organization to help prevent youth substance abuse.
“The future of West Virginia lies in the success of our children and grandchildren,” Senator Manchin said. “Ending the opioid crisis is one of my top priorities, and these funds have been and will continue to be critical in reducing youth substance abuse in West Virginia by helping maintain drug and substance-abuse free environments for the youth of our state. This will allow them to prosper and thrive, which is vital to the success of all West Virginia communities.
“West Virginians have been forced to endure far too many tragedies as a result of the growing drug crisis, and none are as heartbreaking as those that affect our children,” Senator Capito said. “As chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee responsible for funding ONDCP, I have fought hard to protect and deliver resources like these, which will help young men and women and children struggling with substance abuse and its consequences. I am both thrilled and proud to announce these funds, and I will continue working to make sure individuals and organizations across our state have the support and resources they need to keep up the fight.”
