Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced a $1,186,900 grant for Blue Ridge Community and Technical College in Martinsburg through the Job Corps Scholars Program. This funding is made available through the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and will provide young individuals in West Virginia with quality vocational and academic instruction opportunities.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the many young West Virginians who are preparing to enter the workforce during this difficult time, and it is our responsibility to ensure they have the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce,” said Senator Manchin. “I have always said nobody works harder than West Virginians, and this funding will help our hardworking youth at Blue Ridge Community and Technical College be prepared to enter the workforce. I will continue to fight for every West Virginian as we work to recover from this terrible pandemic.”
“I am very pleased to see Blue Ridge Community and Technical College receive funding through this competitive program, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic creates uncertainty and challenges to our work force,” said Senator Capito. “The Job Corps Scholars Program creates fantastic opportunities for dedicated students and helps set our young people in West Virginia on a trajectory for success. Preparing our youth to enter the work force is essential to the future of our state and something that is a top priority of mine. West Virginians want to work hard, and I will continue my efforts to provide opportunities to individuals across our state.”
