Manchin, Capito Announce More Than $14.4 Million For West Virginia Head Start Programs

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $14,443,862 for Head Start programs across West Virginia. This funding was made available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Head Start Emergency Supplemental grants that were allocated in the year-end funding package to support early childhood education and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Early education is essential for a bright future, but many children across America have fallen behind due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We must work to ensure every West Virginia child has access to a quality education, and our Head Start programs provide children with the skills and foundation they need to succeed,” said Senator Manchin. “I am pleased HHS is investing in Head Start programs in the state, as well as additional investments that will support our West Virginia communities as they continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. I will continue to advocate for Head Start funding to give West Virginia children the chance they deserve.”

“Our children deserve to be on their best footing as they begin their education, which is why programs like Head Start are so important because they provide our children with the foundation they need to be successful,” Senator Capito said. “Investing in the youth of our state is an investment into the future of our state, and this annual support from HHS will help maintain the support that our children in West Virginia need.
