Manchin, Capito Announce More than $3.2 Million in Additional Resources for Disaster Recovery
Overall funding for West Virginia recovery efforts totals more than $107 million
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced West Virginia will receive an additional $3,212,000 through the Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery program (CDBG-DR). These funds are used to support recovery from major disasters, such as last June’s floods. The additional funding brings the total amount the state will receive to assist in disaster recovery efforts to $107,492,000 for FY2017.
“Many families and communities across our state are still struggling to recover from the destruction caused by flooding last summer,” Senator Capito said. “These resources will be critical in helping West Virginia rebuild, and I’m thrilled we were able to secure more than $107 million to help the communities that need it most. I’m proud of the way our state has come together during an incredibly tough time, and I know this additional funding will make a real difference as we continue to help each other move forward.”
“This historic flooding impacted 44 West Virginia counties and devastated communities throughout the state. This funding will help ensure every West Virginian affected by this flooding is provided the resources they need to recover,” Senator Manchin said. “Since the flooding last June, we have secured more than $107 million to help our communities recover but there are still families in need. The Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery program will continue to provide much needed relief to the West Virginia families still recovering from the flooding.”
