Manchin, Capito Announce Nearly $400K For West Virginia University Agriculture Internship
Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $398,997 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) to establish a summer undergraduate internship program on food microbial safety at West Virginia University (WVU).
“WVU is a leader in agricultural programs, and this funding will help attract students interested in agricultural research while giving these students the opportunity to expand their experience and knowledge through an internship. Our research teams at WVU do incredible work, and I look forward to seeing our students learn from them. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for funding that expands the educational opportunities West Virginia has to offer,” said Senator Manchin.
“WVU continues to be recognized nationally as a trailblazer in research. Educational experiences such as those funded by these grants will help strengthen food safety in our state, and will empower our farmers markets in West Virginia to run as safely and efficiently as possible. Giving our students the opportunity to participate in in-depth research studies will help prepare them for their careers, as well as benefit future students at WVU. I am thankful for this investment by NIFA in West Virginia and look forward to the impact it will have on our higher education community and state as a whole,” said Senator Capito.
