Manchin, Capito Announce Over $225K For Improving Watersheds In West Virginia

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $225,667 for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This funding will help to improve Chesapeake Bay watersheds in West Virginia by improving water quality, reducing the sediment levels and monitoring other pollutants.

“The EPA and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection continue to work together to help clean up watersheds throughout West Virginia. It is important to ensure the health of all of our waterways so that every West Virginian can enjoy all that our great state has to offer. As Ranking Member on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I am proud to help enhance the water quality of our lakes and rivers so that West Virginia stays wild and wonderful,” said Senator Manchin.

“The Chesapeake Bay is a national treasure and an immensely important ecosystem,” Senator Capito said. “In recent years, local, state, and federal leaders have worked tirelessly to reverse the damage done to the bay by decades of pollution and runoff. As a state within the bay’s watershed, West Virginia has done its part in cleanup efforts, and I am proud to be the lead cosponsor on legislation to reauthorize the Chesapeake Bay Program, which provides resources for conservation projects. This funding will support the continuation of that work and help us pass on a healthier Chesapeake Bay for the next generation.”
