Manchin, Capito Announce USACE Investment for Water Extension Projects in West Virginia
Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $2,000,000 in funding through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for the Gilbert Hanover Waterline Extension Project and the Contract 19 Water Extension Project. These extension projects will help provide reliable, safe drinking water to residents in Mingo, Wyoming, and Fayette counties.
“Every West Virginian and American deserves clean water to drink and fresh air to breathe. I’m pleased the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is continuing to invest in West Virginia clean water projects, with the Gilbert Hanover Waterline Extension and Contract 19 Water Extension projects being the latest to receive federal funding. These projects will provide water service and storage access, as well as public water extensions to residents in Mingo, Wyoming and Fayette counties. Last year, I advocated to increase the amount of funds authorized for Section 340, Southern West Virginia Environmental Infrastructure Program and I was proud to see it included in the Water Resource Development Act that was signed into law in December, so water infrastructure improvement projects can continue in the Mountain State. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding and work directly with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to upgrade and improve water infrastructure in West Virginia,” Senator Manchin said.
“Ensuring West Virginian’s access to safe drinking water is essential to our communities. For years, I have worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to revitalize our state’s water and wastewater systems, its locks and dams, and other water resources infrastructure. As the top Republican on the EPW Committee, I will continue to prioritize these investments into our state that give West Virginia communities the resources they need to be successful,” Ranking Member Capito said.
