Manchin, Capito Announce WVDEP Grant To Protect Groundwater
Washington, DC– U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Ranking
Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, both members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today
announced that the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP)
will receive two grants totaling $97,932 from the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA)’s Leaking Underground Storage Tank Trust Fund Corrective Action
Program.
“Every West Virginian
deserves clean water to drink and fresh air to breathe. In order to protect
West Virginia’s soil, groundwater and communities, we must update and improve
our infrastructure across the state. I am pleased the EPA is investing in the West
Virginia Department of Environmental Protection to protect our groundwater and
environment from future contamination and clean up our communities. As Chairman
of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and as a member of the
Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for funding to
upgrade and improve our infrastructure across the Mountain State,” Senator
Manchin said.
“These grants will help
WVDEP tackle backlog and assist in leak protection and prevention in
underground storage tanks. Addressing these tanks protects water, and this
funding can be used to mitigate any problems due to leaks,” Ranking Member
Capito said.
