Manchin, Capito Pass Senate Resolution Commemorating Wheeling’s 250th Anniversary
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today announced passage of their resolution to commemorate Wheeling, West Virginia’s, 250th anniversary. Senators Manchin and Capito both spoke on the Senate floor following unanimous passage of the resolution.
“From the first Zane Brothers’ settlement that became Wheeling to the newly formed state of West Virginia designating Wheeling as the capital, Wheeling has been integral to West Virginia’s history. I am proud to see this resolution to honor Wheeling’s 250th anniversary pass the Senate today,” Senator Manchin said.
“In so many ways, Wheeling represents the American Dream,” Senator Capito said. “From its founding by Ebenezer Zane to its current role as an important transportation hub, Wheeling’s rich history is an influential part of West Virginia’s—and America’s—story. I’m proud to have introduced this resolution to honor Wheeling’s many contributions to our state and celebrate all those who have called it home.”
