Manchin Celebrates Hundreds of Potential New Jobs at Gestamp Ribbon-Cutting

South Charleston, W.Va. - At a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Gestamp today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) told the crowd that he was so proud to be part of the partnership that re-opened the stamping plant for potentially hundreds of good-paying jobs.

“Government can do two things with your money – spend it or invest it.  When I was governor, we chose to invest it,” Senator Manchin said. “And one of the investments we made that really paid off was in Ray Park and his vision for this site. The results speak for themselves – hundreds of good jobs headed our way, a wonderful investment of at least $100 million by a strong international company like Gestamp, and every dime of our $15 million investment paid back by Ray.

“This is a good example of what happens when we work together across the aisle.  Some people think we can’t do things like this anymore. Well, I’ve got a four-letter word for folks like that, and that four-letter word is J-O-B-S. As elected leaders, it’s our highest priority to do all we can help to create jobs.”

After the event, Senator Manchin said that he met a number of workers who were unemployed or underemployed before Gestamp opened.

“So many of the men and women here are so grateful for this opportunity to make a good living for their family - and they are who this day is truly about, these workers, their families and our community.”
