Manchin: Coal Got the Job Done During Bomb Cyclone

Washington, D.C. – During today’s Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources hearing, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) questioned Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman Kevin McIntyre and other reliability experts about the important role coal plays in the country’s energy portfolio and grid reliability.

“For those people who believe we can do without fossil completely, I want us all to be completely honest and accurate with them - we can’t,” Senator Manchin said. “What would this country have done without the backup of coal fired plants in the Polar Vortex and also this last bomb cyclone? And what critical position would it have put our country in?”
