Manchin Congratulates Alpha on Grand Opening of Mine Safety Facility

Alpha opens Running Right Leadership Academy in Boone County

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today congratulated Alpha on the opening of the Running Right Leadership Academy, a new mine safety and training facility to teach miners how to stay safe and avoid injuries in the coal mines.

“A strong mining industry begins with a strong commitment to our miners,” Senator Manchin said. “Our coal miners are some of the hardest working people in America, and they are proud to do the heavy lifting that keeps this country strong. It is our responsibility to be absolutely and totally committed to the safety of every worker – and that means that every worker in our state should be able to get up in the morning and expect to come home safely to their loved ones at night.

“I applaud Alpha for building this truly impressive training facility that focuses on mine safety. Making sure our miners know how to react in every possible circumstance they may face in the mines is simply common sense. These training classes will help keep our miners safe, and that is the number one priority when it comes to coal production.”

The Running Right Leadership Academy was constructed as part of an agreement crafted between Alpha and the U.S. Department of Justice after the 2010 Upper Big Branch Mine disaster.
