Manchin Congratulates University of Charleston on Expansion
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) applauded the University of Charleston’s announcement today that the school is embarking on major expansions in Beckley and Martinsburg, as well as online.
The University of Charleston’s expansion came after the school took over Mountain State University. New locations will be named UC-Charleston, UC-Martinsburg and UC-Net.
“I could not be more proud of the way the people of our state came together to continue educating the students who were enrolled at Mountain State University,” Senator Manchin said. “Our first goal has always been to make sure the students get an excellent education that prepares them for good-paying jobs. I also wanted to make sure to recognize the faculty and staff who have poured their hearts into educating these students, and I am pleased that they will be able to continue in their mission. Finally, this institution was vitally important to the community, and I am glad to know that it will continue to be a mainstay in the lives of the residents of Beckley, Martinsburg and Charleston.
“So many leaders worked tirelessly to finalize this agreement, and I thank everyone who has put in long hours to make this a seamless transition for the students. In particular, I thank UC President Ed Welch, as well as Chairman Henry Harmon and the entire board of trustees for their strong leadership and vision.”
